In this past week, I have focused on reading “When Breath Becomes Air” by Paul Kalanithi. I have loved this book so far and intend on finishing it in the next week or two. This book has already given me great insight on the life of someone in the medical field and how difficult it can be. However, it has also highlighted how rewarding that effort can be if you strive through it. I hope to learn more from this book as I finish it. I started this book due to a recommendation from a neurosurgeon, Dr. Hoes, that I interviewed. I have also reached out to Dr. Hoes to discuss the book and plan on meeting her again in early March. I plan on coming up with new questions and discussion topics pertaining to the book before our next meeting.
However, my ISM original work is something I also need to focus on. I have my plan, however I need to continue my research to ensure that my topic idea is not a dead-end. I plan on working on this original work during the next week.
Another focus of mine is meeting with Dr. Dussor. I have had two successful meetings with Dr. Dussor and look forward to learning more from him. During our next meeting, I plan on asking him for a formal mentorship through ISM and for guidance on my original work project. In order to prepare for this, I need to contact Dr. Dussor and schedule a meeting, review how to ask for a mentorship, and also ensure I am prepared with my original work proposal.
My future of ISM currently looks as if I will have a formal mentorship with Dr. Dussor and an informal mentorship relationship with Dr. Hoes. I believe I have a lot to learn from both professionals.
